High-Level Thesaurus
Welcome to the website of the High-Level Thesaurus Project (HILT). The HILT project, which is now in phase IV, aims to research, investigate and develop pilot solutions for problems pertaining to cross-searching multi-subject scheme information environments.
HILT Phase IV and Embedding Project Demonstrators...
Web Services Links:
- Hilt SRU/W Server - Different HILT APIs can be accessed here. From this page, you can formulate a request to be sent to HILT from your local service and results can be viewed/retrieved in SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System).
- Vocabulary Browse/Search - You can search or browse different vocabularies available in HILT.
- Toolkit demo - A toolkit has been designed to illustrate how HILT can be embedded in a service and is available to download. A demonstration of the toolkit is available here. (Also available as an avi file.)
- HILT SOAP Server - A SOAP client that communicates with the HILT SOAP server.
- OCLC client - Illustrates the possibility of using distributed architecture. HILT communicates with an SRW server at OCLC and displays retrieved data.
- Bubl Search - An example of toolkit elements as they are embedded in a service; this demonstration has now been superseded by elements in the toolkit.
- Hilt2 Emulation - Superseded by elements in the toolkit.
Embedding Project Demos:
HILT APIs are embedded within different services to enhance their subject search. Demos are available below.
- Intute demo - Intute suggests alternate terms corresponding to a user term input by retriveing terms from MeSH and HASSET, two schemes held by HILT, using the get_filtered_set API. The system also displays DDC suggestions for a user term input (using the get_ddc_records API). In the instance of a no match situation, the system offers spelling suggestions from HILT.
- EDINA demo - The Depot at EDINA looks for JACS terms corresponding to a user term (using get_filtered_set API). If there is no match, the system looks for any matches in DDC (using get_ddc_records API), which are then cross-correlated to find JACS equivalents. In the instance of a no match situation, alternate spelling suggestions are offered from HILT.
- CAIRNS demo - CAIRNS offers DDC suggestions for a user term input before finding a collection or collections of potential relevance (using get_ddc_records). The system also offers spelling suggestions for a keyword search.
