The HILT projects are a series of research projects based at the Centre for Digital Library Research (CDLR) in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of Strathclyde. HILT phase III is currently in progress and is the follow-up to the HILT Machine to Machine (M2M) Feasibility Study. Funded by the UK Joint Information Systems Committee and involving collaboration with EDINA at the University of Edinburgh, HILT Phase III is due to be completed in early 2007.

HILT III pilots and demonstrator: SOAP client demonstrator and GoGeo! SRW client demonstrator

HILT phase III is now approaching the final area of research and development before the project end and final report.

Various pilot implementations and demonstrators have been created, including a SOAP client demonstrator and a GoGeo! SRW client demonstrator. Feel free to visit these and experiment. Please note, however, that these are under constant development and may therefore be taken down for tweaking at any time (i.e. don't expect them to work all the time!)

For those experimenting with the SOAP client demonstrator, some good examples include 'shore protection' or 'weeds' for the Get_all_records function, 'drainage' or 'air pollution' for the Get_DDC_records function, 363.34 or 378.198 for the Get_nonDDC_records function. The Get_filtered_set function is more conducive to your own random examples (some will work better than others though), but some good indicative output can be derived from 'Woodlands' (using IPSV) or 'Students' (using HASSET) or 'Academic teaching personnel' (using UNESCO). Remember that you can experiment with the filters and invoke the function over a number of terminologies by holding down the 'shift' key while you select from the drop down menu.
