Welcome to the website of the High-Level Thesaurus Project (HILT). The HILT project, which is now in phase III, aims to research, investigate, pilot, and develop solutions for, problems pertaining to cross-searching multi-subject scheme information environments.

About HILT M2M Feasibility Study...

Please note: The HILT M2M Feasibility Study ended in April 2005.

JISC funded a small study to follow-up findings and research previously undertaken via the HILT Phase II project. This small study aimed to:

Determine the feasibility of providing a machine to machine (M2M) demonstrator of the functionality created in the HILT Phase II terminologies server pilot;

Establish details of the likely scope and costs of a follow-up project to develop the actual M2M demonstrator.

The original intention post-HILT Phase II was to make an application for funds to develop an M2M demonstrator within one of the RDN hubs - BIOME. However, initial investigations revealed too many unknowns to permit an immediate move to such a stage of development – hence this initial M2M feasibility, scoping and costing study was undertaken.

The study will involved the CDLR , EDINA , BIOME in the RDN , Wordmap , the HILT terminology experts Alan Gilchrist and Leonard Will, and UKOLN.

The study will lasted two and a half months, beginning mid January 2005, with the Final Report available by end March 2005.
